David Duchovny's character was on a one man mission to get behind and expose a creepy secret government, depicted in the series as absolutely evil; best typified by the smoking man played by William Davis. The way the series was shot was masterful, the lighting superb, to amplify the sense of evil encountered by Fox Mulder.

I am no fan of Bill Clinton. I consider January 1989 to January 2009 the 20 year reign of Bush/Clinton/Gingerich, when de-regulation RULED. During this time the table was set for today's financial meltdown, and the public's airwaves were stolen and given to the highest bidder with no mind paid to diversity and fairness. What humors me more than anything about the Clinton watch was how Clinton was portrayed by Mr. Oxycontin/Rush Limbaugh and other "purveyors of truth" as an evil liberal, with his hands on an out-of-control Federal government. During this time, there were syndicated right wing talk shows, like Ken Hamblin's out of Denver, which used the X-Files theme music for their show. They were, after all, tied-up in bashing Clinton and anything in Washington, and the X-Files vibe fit perfectly.

Conversely, "24" had its best run during the Bush years that followed Clinton. In it, Federal agent Jack Bauer can do no wrong. The show is also photographed masterfully, with impeccable lighting and editing for maximum effect. The effects set the table for Jack Bauer to do ANYTHING and make it seem justifiable in his pursuit of evil (only this time outside the walls of that evil secret government depicted during the Clinton years). One can argue that the mindset of "24", in which a Federal agent can do no wrong in pursuit of justice, dovetails with what Cheyney-Bush did in Guantanamo Bay and who knows where else? When Mr. Oxycontin chimed in on behalf of the show, is there any doubt what Fox-TV has been orchestrating in the minds of too many of our fellow citizens?

What will Ruppert Murdoch do now that Jack Bauer is being retired? The sky (and the basement) is the limit.

Pete Simon

footprintswayne44@yahoo.comAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5261340509073154473.post-34118100472809125152010-05-04T13:16:17.325-04:002010-05-04T13:16:17.325-04:00After last night its apparent 24 has its mojo back...After last night its apparent 24 has its mojo backAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
